                   Almond Brittle Brownies  

  • 1/3 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tbs butter
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 4 oz unsweetened chocolate coursely chopped
  • 2 cups sugar 
  • 2 tea vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose 
PREP: 30 MIN                BAKE: 37 MIN. AT 350

1. Preheat to 350  Line a baking sheet with foil, butter foil.Set aside.  Grease and flour 13x9x2 inch pan.

2. for almond brittle, in a medium skillet, combine almonds, 1/4cup sugar and the 1 tbs of butter . cook over medium heat till sugar starts to melt, shaking skillet occasionally. do not stir. when sugar starts to melt reduce to low and cook until sugar is golden. pour onto the prepared cooking sheet. cool

3. place almond brittle in heavy plastic bag. using a rolling pin coarsely crush brittle

4. crust:  in medium mixing bowl beat 1/2 c butter, 1/2 c sugar with electric mixer on med to high till smooth..stir in 1 c flour until into dish bake 10 min

5. medium saucepan  3/4 cup butter,  chocolate and melt over low heat..remove from heat stir in 2 cups sugar and vanilla..........add eggs 1 at a time beating with wooden spoon after each addition, stir in the 11/2 c flour . then pour over hot crust spreading evenly.

6. bake for 15 min.. sprinkle with almond brittle press lightly into chocolate layer .......bake 12  15 min more 
    cool in pan on wire rack
              cut into bars 
about 36 bars
